Jewelry & Books & Photos
Phillip and Janine Whiteman brought the PNJW Collections
and the Aurora Clothing Collection to Fort Moultrie Visitor
Center on Sullivan's Island. This was a terrific display, and they
hadn't even brought it all! Be sure to see it if you ever get the
chance.

Eyeglasses. (67/66e3)
This red wallet is made of very thin leather. It has the same shape of
the ones sold by sutlers, but theirs are usually thicker leather. Was
the fine leather a class distinction?(70)
Notice the accordion pleat in the expanding section, and the flap.(69)
The collection also had a fine display of period currency. (71)
This exhibit had many Godey's Ladies Books of the period. (61)
Godey's 1859 shows a sewing kit pattern (housewife or huzzif) and a
period version of the sewing kit is next to it. (38)
This Civil War era Godey's had a "Stars & Stripes" quilt
pattern. Yes, the book was printed in the North. (60)
"Dave" a spectator & co-worker. I promised him I would
"post" him.
This exhibit had various types of original period images. This one
however is our host, Phillip Whiteman, taken at the August 140th
Manassas. (75)
This is an image of our host and hostess in period dress. (72)
And last but not least, this photo is of our generous hosts. (76)
