1 - The South Carolina Ladies Auxiliary raised money to purchase the stone for
the Unknown Child who was exhumed from
underneath the citadel football stadium along with 22 Confederate Sailors. They
were all buried in the Soldiers Ground of Magnolia Cemetery on November 1999.
The VA paid for the stones of the sailors, but not the child. The dedication of
this stone was part of the Confederate Memorial Day services.

2 - Dedication of stone to Rebecca Sineath, who
was originally buried in Soldiers Ground during the War Between the States.
Rebecca had been a laundress for the Confederate soldiers when a typhoid epidemic
broke out. When the soldiers were brought to Magnolia for burial, she was laid
to rest with them. At a later date, her remains were moved just outside of the
Soldiers Ground to make room for more soldiers. The location was recently
determined and the Confederate Heritage Trust (of which SCLA is a
member-organization) made arrangements for a new stone to memorialize her.

3 - SCLA was proud to serve refreshments on this
very warm Southern day. Pat Blitch, 2000-2001 President, was honored to assist
the Confederate Heritage Trust during the flag ceremony. The flags that had
flown over the monument all year were replaced with new flags.
