Our chapter is the official support group for the Secession Camp #4, Sons of Confederate Veterans in Charleston, South Carolina.
Snowden Chapter proudly took its name from a prominent Charleston lady who was very active in community service before, during and after the War Between the States. We hope you will read more about the life and accomplishments of Mary Amarinthia Yates Snowden.
To join Snowden Chapter OCR, you do NOT need to have a Confederate ancestor, nor a relative in the SCV. Members of our chapter must be 18 years old or better to become members, and acquire the sponsorship and signature of an SCV member and a Snowden OCR member before being voted upon. Some of our members have relatives in other SCV camps because those camps do not have chapters yet. Some are also members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and some are reenactors. All have joined in the common bond of a love and respect for the Southern and Confederate Heritage.
We meet every month for a dinner meeting. If you would like to come to a meeting, we always welcome guests. Please contact our President to learn the date and location of our next meeting.

As a non-profit corporation, Snowden Chapter OCR has made donations to several non-profit groups supporting our heritage and history. Among these are Confederate Museum in Charleston, Carnton Plantation, the Confederate Home & College in Charleston.
Snowden Chapter is a member organization of the Confederate Heritage Trust, Inc (CHT). Through this organization, we help plan and participate in:
Charleston's Confederate Memorial Day. This is normally held on the second Saturday in May at Magnolia Cemetery. Special dedications have been held for the child exhumed from under the Citadel stadium with the 22 Confederate Sailors, and for Rebecca Sineath, who was originally buried in the Confederate Soldiers Ground during the War.

Confederate Ghost Walk. This is normally in October. One of the special scenarios is about Mrs. Snowden's wartime experiences with General Sherman.

Battle of Secessionville. This is normally held in November at the beautiful Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, just outside of Charleston, SC.

Hunley Funerals. The second crew of the Hunley was exhumed under the leadership of CHT and buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. The CHT was instrumental in the funeral of the final crew of the Hunley which was laid to rest April 17, 2004. Additional Confederate Sailors were exhumed from under the Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium in June 2004, and were reburied March 5, 2005.
